In 2024, Berlin is in focus throughout Europe: The German capital is going to celebrate two charismatic events. In summer, the Olympic Stadium hosts five matches and the final of the UEFA European Championship 2024. And autumn 2024 will be all about the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

UEFA European Championship 2024 in Berlin
15th June to 14th July 2024
In the summer of 2024, Berlin is the world's sports metropolis for one month. Around 1.5 million football fans arrived in the capital to cheer on the UEFA Euro 24 : at the Olympic Stadium, at the gigantic fan mile at the Brandenburg Gate and at public viewings all over the city. A total of six European Championship matches, including the grand final, are played in Berlin.

35 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall: The big anniversary in autumn
9th November 2024
Numerous events are planned throughout Berlin in autumn 2024 to mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the wall, with an official ceremony on 9th November. Exhibitions, open-air events, guided tours and participatory activities are to be offered. At the Humboldt Forum, the focus will be on the former Palace of the Republic for the whole year from May.
Spectacular: historical and new posters, signs and banners are installed along the former course of the Wall.

250th anniversary: Caspar David Friedrich in Berlin
19th April to 4th August 2024
The great German painter of Romanticism is celebrated throughout Germany in 2024: On the occasion of Caspar David Friedrich's anniversary year, several cities are presenting independent exhibitions. A retrospective is planned in New York in 2025.
Berlin is displaying more than 100 of his world-famous paintings at the exhibition Unendliche Landschaften.

Laver Cup Berlin 2024
20 to 22 September 2024
A tennis tournament unlike any other, the seventh edition of the Laver Cup takes place in Berlin for the first time following stops in Prague, Chicago, Geneva, Boston, London and Vancouver. The tournament pits six of the best men’s tennis players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the world over three days of intense team competition. The teams are led by legendary captains, Bjorn Borg for Team Europe and John McEnroe for Team World.

St Hedwig's Cathedral: ceremonial reopening in Mitte
24 November 2024
Frederick the Great had the famous domed building on Bebelplatz built on the model of the Pantheon in Rome. The cathedral of the Archdiocese of Berlin, the destination of many visitors to Berlin, has been rebuilt and renovated in recent years and will shine in new splendour in 2024.

Zerreißprobe. Art between Politics and Society 1945 - 2000
The Neue Nationalgalerie shows its extensive art collection from a new perspective: Under the title “Zerreißprobe” (The Acid Test), it will present masterpieces from the years after the Second World War that bear witness to the upheaval, the German division and the emotional turmoil.

The Ku'damm gets a new musical!
It goes on! "Ku'damm 59 - The Musical" is the sequel to "Ku'damm 56" and tells the story of the four fearless Schöllack women who fight for emancipation and self-discovery in Berlin at the end of the 1950s.
Re:Generation. Climate change in the green world heritage site - and what we can do
The open-air exhibition in the middle of the green Sanssouci Palace Park not only documents the fatal consequences of extreme temperatures and drought in the green World Heritage Site, but also uses workshops, guided tours and 30 exhibition stations to show solutions and what we can all do. The focus is on the importance of joint commitment.

There and gone. The Palace of the Republic is the present
Where the Humboldt Forum stands today was once the Palace of the Republic: the seat of the People's Chamber and a place of representation for the GDR, with modern design, art, plenty of restaurants and a discotheque. In the anniversary year of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Humboldt Forum is dedicating an extensive exhibition and event programme to the most important building of the GDR.

FALLING | IN LOVE Grand Show
Experience the FALLING | IN LOVE Grand Show at Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin. Plunge into a surging sea of colours and emotions - curated by Parisian star designer Jean Paul GAULTIER. Berlin's radiant show jewel with the indescribable magic of 100 million Swarovski crystals.
Berlin 2024 will showcase one of the greatest portrait painters of all time: Along with Rembrandt and Vermeer, Frans Hals is one of the most important Dutch artists of the 17th century. The large collaborative exhibition can be seen before in London and Amsterdam.

Annual summer highlight at the historic centre of Berlin: the evocative open-air concert of the Staatsoper Berlin. In 2024, Christian Thielemann will be conducting “Eine Alpensinfonie” by Richard Strauss. Admission is, as always, free.

The LGBTQIA community and all supporters celebrate tolerance and diversity in Berlin every summer. The highlight of the big street festival against discrimination, hate and violence is the Pride Parade through the Berlin districts of Tiergarten and Schöneberg and the Pride Festival Finale.

On 24th August, Berlin's concert life will start the new season with the Musikfest Berlin. Together with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Berliner Festspiele invites you to diverse concerts by the great orchestras and ensembles in the field of classical and modern music.

Every year, the US festival Lollapalooza in Berlin thrills around one hundred thousand music fans with a high-calibre line-up, international bands and prominent musicians. It's two days of dancing and partying.

50th BMW Berlin Marathon - the anniversary marathon
One of the biggest running events in the world, the Berlin Marathon, attracts more than 40,000 participants from around 120 nations to the German capital every autumn. And of course just as many spectators. The route leads past the most important landmarks of Berlin.

Festival of Lights 2024
Every year, when the days get darker again, Berlin shines especially bright: Throughout the city, landmarks, monuments and squares are illuminated with artistic light installations. Berlin glows in colourful illuminations until deep into the night.

What's new in Berlin?
New museums have opened or reopened all over the city: The new ones are Fotografiska Berlin and Deutschlandmuseum. The former airport tower in Tempelhof and the Deja Vu Museum also entice with new insights and views. And after years of renovation, the Medizinhistorische Museum der Charité once again invites visitors to experience 300 years of medical history.
Another interesting bit of news: Now that the Käthe Kollwitz Museum Berlin has moved to a larger exhibition space at the Schloss Charlottenburg, the old museum building in Fasanenstraße now houses the Werkstatt Exilmuseum. It invites all Berliners to inform themselves about the future Exilmuseum at Anhalter Bahnhof and to be a part of it. It is to be inaugurated in 2028.
